SHAWNA KING (she/her)

My path to becoming a midwife began while volunteering in a small village in Zimbabwe. I witnessed my first birth at the home of my host family. The strength of the birthing woman and her innate ability to birth her baby undisturbed amazed and intrigued me. I knew then I wanted to be “with women” during this transformative time and ultimately realized midwifery was my calling. I made my way to Brooklyn where I graduated with a Masters of Science in Midwifery in 2002 from the State University of New York at Downstate. Brooklyn became my home. It is where I met my husband and where my daughter was born. She was born at home into the hands of my husband with the support of our amazing midwife.

I’ve had the privilege of caring for women in a variety of settings including busy hospitals, birthing centers and a private practice. After gaining years of experience in those settings, I started a homebirth practice to further expand the care I provide for families.

I’ve dedicated my practice to delivering evidence-based care in a personalized and meaningful way, while striving to form a partnership that empowers individuals and families to make informed choices about their health. I believe through an intimate collaboration a relationship of trust and respect is created and the best outcomes can be achieved.

I consider pregnancy and birth to be sacred life events.

It is my great honor to be a part of your journey.
